Durafans
Design Features and Solutions
The Durafan is an entirely new concept in Mining Ventilation.
The Design is unique in that the fan operating speed is half that of conventional ventilation fans. This feature provides the following benefits:
1 – Reduced operating speeds results in less damage to the bearings which account for a large percentage of failures.
2 – The slower impeller speeds result in a different noise frequency spectrum – we are no longer faced with high high-end frequency pressure levels.
Traditionally any attempt to reduce the operating speed of the fan has been at the expense of air pressure. Through our unique design of casing, impellers and sets of diffusers we have managed to maintain the volumes and pressure of the high speed fan. In fact we have improved the volume to such an extent that we are now able to use a lower rated kilowatt motor to do the work that was traditionally done by a higher kilowatt motor.
Improved Efficiency
The fact that a lower kilowatt motor can now achieve the performance of a higher powered motor together with fine tweaking the double impeller system has resulted in much greater efficiencies. The volume of air moved is now greater than that traditionally moved by a standard fan of similar size. This feature is in alignment with the thinking and strategy of the Department of Minerals and Energy. The Department has launched a program to improve energy efficiency. One of the areas that has specifically been targeted is that of electric motors
